Of Intolerance...

Good Morning! The link below is an article you may find of interest - I found it while thinking about some photos I saw awhile back on the Internet that disturbed me...friends [yes, actually] of mine posted photos of themselves dressed as Jesus [various "forms" of Jesus] in what was certainly meant to be a mockery of Him...it often seems to me that we are getting farther away from religious tolerance in the USA, not closer...in some ways I salute the spirit of the persons in the article linked below because they are using their freedom of speech to assert their views...I welcome that...but inflammatory things [like the photos I mentioned] seem pointed in the wrong direction...what to do about religious tolerance?

I remember reading the article and must confess that proselytizing for NOT BELIEVING IN SOMETHING strikes me as silly--maybe even absurd. These people pride themselves on being rational, but their action, I think, is completely emotional in its motivation. It seems more about feeling less isolated than anything else. Actually, I respect the atheist position, and I certainly think atheists have the right of free speech like anyone else.

As to religious intolerance, I have no means to judge whether it's becoming more prevalent in our society. It's sad to hear of your friends' mocking Jesus, but Jesus is used to mockery. Of course, that doesn't justify it, but there you are. Actually, if they'd shot pictures of themselves just being themselves, they'd have created an accurate image of Jesus, for he identifies so closely with them even in their mockery that to see them is to see the face of Jesus.

The Atlantic: The Case Against Encouraging Polygamy Why civil marriage should not encompass group unions

" Where does the next advance come?" he asks in an essay at  Politico.  "Now that we've defined that love and devotion and family isn't driven by gender alone, why should it be limited to just two individuals? The most natural advance next for marriage lies in legalized polygamy.... Gay marriage remains illegal in Australia, most of Asia, Africa, and Oceania, and parts of Europe and Mexico; the most liberal of those countries strike me as the most natural places for "the next advance" of marriage. I'd urge my fellow gay-marriage proponents to focus their efforts there––and legalizing group marriage in America right now would strengthen the hands of gay-marriage opponents abroad, confirming slippery-slope arguments that were raised and rejected here. If it ever made sense to avoid this fight as a matter of political strategy, it still does; if gay marriage was ever a more important priority than plural marriage, it remains so." ~ Freddie de Boe...
